Example of Book Report Harry Potter and the philosopher’s Stone

By J.K. Rowling Edited By Rodes

Have you ever read or listened to a story about an ordinary boy who suddenly becomes a prince? I bet you have. How about a story about a boy who just found out that he is a wizard?  If you have not read that kind of book, try to read J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The story takes places at Hogwarts which is a school of magic for young wizards and witches. Hogwarts is a castle that is magically hidden in the countryside of modern England. This book has become the best sellers around the world due to its unique theme and fascinating magical world, and those are my reasons for

choosing this book for my book report.

The main character in this book is Harry Potter, an 11-year old boy who just discovered that he is a famous wizard. Harry Potter had lived with his unkind uncle and aunt without knowing that he is a wizard who could defeat Voldemort, the evil and powerful witch, even when he was just a baby. His ‘fight’ with Voldemort leaves him a mark on his forehead. Ron Weasley, a red – haired wizard is Harry’s best friend in Hogwarts. Together with Hermione Granger, a clever first year wizard, they experienced a great adventure in Hogwarts. They had a very strict teacher of potion, Severus Snape who always put them in troubles. However, their headmaster, Albus Dumbledore usually saved them from Snape. Dumbledore was recognized as a wise and most powerful wizard.

The story started when Harry found out that he is a wizard and on his 11th birthday he had to go to Hogwarts, a school of magic, to learn how to become a wizards. In Hogwarts Harry met Ron and Hermione and they become best friends. Soon they knew that Voldemort wanted to kill Harry to regain his full power that he had lost when Harry defeated him. The three fiends revealed that a magical item is being guarded at Hogwarts. They suspect that Professor Snape is trying to steal the treasure and give it to Voldemort so that Voldemort can return to power. They, then, decided to catch him in the act. Harry, Ron, and Hermione combine their talents to get past the traps and stop the theft. Harry discovered that Voldemort had been at Hogwarts with the help of Professor Quirrell (not Snape) who Harry then defeats.

This book is not only enjoyable to read since there are lots of fantastic magical elements but this book also offers some moral values that can be learned. Besides the general moral value about good vs. evil, it also offers some other values. The value that I think is most important is that we have to know and appreciate our own strength because we or maybe the world might need our strength someday. This value is well expressed in the story where Harry, Hermione and Ron wanted to stop the valuable magical item from being stolen by Voldemort. The three friends have to use their talents, strength, to solve the mystery, Hermione with her intelligence, Harry with his excellent skill of broom riding and Ron with his excellent skill of playing magical chess. It encourages the readers to believe in their own strength.

I would certainly recommend this book to other readers. This book is not only adventurous but is also full of imaginative magical worlds. This magical world is interestingly described so the readers can really experience the situation. After reading the book, the readers can feel that they are the wizards.
